“RCB Bank Summer School, taking place for second year is an opportunity to promote Cyprus as a great destination and a credible business centre in the EU”, CEO Dr. Kirill Zimarin has said.

He was speaking during a visit to the Presidential Palace, heading a group of more than 40 students participating in RCB Bank’s pioneering Summer School entitled “Global Finance and the Banking System” (24-31 July) which takes place under the auspices of the First Lady of the Republic of Cyprus, Mrs. Andri Anastasiades. “We are all very lucky indeed to learn from Cyprus’ achievements, the successful completion of the memorandum and the return to growth”, Dr. Zimarin said, noting that RCB’s Summer School project “is an investment in the future because young people are the future”.

Welcoming the students, Cyprus’ First Lady praised the initiative of Dr. Zimarin, noting that his commitment to sustainable community development and public charity is vastly appreciated by the Government and the People of Cyprus. “I wish to express my profound gratitude to RCB for the invaluable support the Bank provides all these years to charity initiatives and organisations, along with social groups and individuals in need, in particular in the fields of health, education, sports and culture”, Mrs. Anastasiades said. The students had a unique opportunity to have a guided tour in the Presidential Palace.

Following the visit to the Presidential Palace, the students attended a panel discussion “Bridge to the Future’’ at A.G. Leventis Gallery with the participation of both communities of Cyprus. In his address RCB’s Executive Director Sotos Zachkeos welcomed the participants noting that it was a unique opportunity for the students to learn about the latest developments and different aspects of the negotiations. Mr. Zachkeos pointed out that RCB’s Summer School is a proof of the importance which the Bank attributes to personal development and capacity building in the community.

The discussion moderated by Sir Christopher Pissarides included the following distinguished speakers: Andreas Mavroyiannis, Ambassador, Negotiator, Phidias Pilides, President of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Fikri Toros, President of the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce and Charis Psaltis, Professor at the University of Cyprus.
